Ethics Comittee

The Ethics Committee at the Faculty of Medicine of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is an independent body consisting of members working in the health care and non-medical fields.

The committee has the task of ethically and legally evaluating research projects to be carried out by members of the university (i.e. enrolled students, full-time university staff, private lecturers, associate professors, doctoral students) on or with human beings (including deceased persons), with human body material, and with data collected or evaluated on human beings, prior to the start of research, and to advise the responsible researchers. Studies involving human somatic cell therapy, gene transfer, or genetically modified organisms are also subject to their evaluation.

Applications for clinical trials of drugs or medical devices may only be submitted by physicians working in the area of the University of Düsseldorf.
