Clinical psychology and psychotherapy

The Master's degree course in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy is characterized by

  • Scientific qualification
  • Acquisition of psychotherapeutic competence

The central aim of the course is to prepare students for psychotherapeutic work in various scientific and practical fields of application in clinical psychology and psychotherapy. This preparation takes place on the basis of current research with a high level of application in the sense of experience-oriented teaching. Due to the location of the degree program at the Faculty of Medicine, there is a special focus on the treatment of complex psychosomatic, psychiatric and neuropsychological patients. The practical work placements take place in the psychotherapeutic university outpatient clinic of the UKD and at the LVR Klinikum Düsseldorf. The planned internships can be offered to all students within the standard period of study.

The Master's program is a consecutive course of study that builds on a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (in accordance with licensing requirements). The Master's program is conducted entirely at the Medical Faculty of the HHU Düsseldorf.

The Master's degree program in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy complies with the requirements of the licensing regulations for psychotherapists (PsychThApprO, 2020). Upon successful completion of the program, HHU awards the academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.). With this Master's degree, graduates fulfill the requirements for admission to the psychotherapeutic examination at the State Examination Office to obtain a psychotherapeutic license.
