About us

In cooperation with the University Clinic Düsseldorf, the Medical Faculty of the Heinrich Heine University has created the training center for medical core competencies on an area of 410 m², thus clearly positioning itself in the nationwide competition for good and innovative medical training.

Ambitions

Skills and Practice

The Düsseldorf Curriculum Medicine focuses on comprehensive practical preparation for the medical profession. In addition to imparting knowledge and attitudes , a major focus of the competence-oriented Düsseldorf Curriculum Medicine is on teaching skills through extensive practical instruction. In order to provide our students with a routine entry into the CIY and thus also into their later everyday professional life, the training center offers practical practice opportunities beyond the core curriculum. This enables students to learn and develop the skills that are essential for everyday clinical work even before the first practice block.

Peer-to-Peer

Today's students are tomorrow's teachers. The Training Center offers many courses and electives in a peer-to-peer teaching format, promoting teaching by student tutors. This provides a protected, safe space for participating students to learn techniques, ask questions, and make mistakes. At the same time, the peer-to-peer formats promote the tutors' teaching skills for later professional life.

Interprofessionality

The cooperation of various medical professional disciplines forms the basis of everyday hospital life. Even though the professions differ in many of their activities, there are just as many points of intersection. In order to promote interprofessional cooperation and the efficient division of labor in the ward team even during studies, we offer course formats in the training center in cooperation with other medical disciplines, such as nursing and the physiotherapy school.

Team

The team of the training center consists of the medical director Dr. Carsten Döing, the organizational support of the Dean of Medical Studies and the student tutors, who divide the different tasks to enable the practical teaching in the training center.

Office

The office team takes care of all organizational matters and thus maintains the daily course routine. This includes, in addition to course booking, room planning and the preparatory set-up of the courses. Furthermore, the office team is available for calls and e-mails as well as for questions on site.

Concept Group

The concept group of the training center is responsible for course and elective development. In addition to brainstorming, the concept group takes care of project planning and creates course concepts, which it ultimately implements. The areas of responsibility of the students involved are very diverse and offer a wide range of possibilities in the context of project planning.

Tutors

The student tutors run the courses and elective units of the training center. After a medical induction, the tutors take care of the implementation of their course largely independently under ongoing medical supervision. In addition to teaching theoretical basics, they also train practical skills and are available to the participating students in the courses for technical questions.
