Interprofessional Wound Management

starting 7th Semester

This interprofessional and practical elective focuses on wound theory and the subsequent wound care. Experienced physicians, wound managers and student tutors impart knowledge on wound healing disorders, wound dressings and various dressing techniques with the aim of providing adequate wound care in everyday clinical practice. Students also have the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned on models in the Skills Lab and to shadow in the Surgical Outpatient Clinic.

Course Units:

  • Pathophysiology of wound healing and wound healing disorders.
  • Practical exercises on models in the Skills Lab
  • Workshop wound dressings
  • Compression workshop
  • VAC dressings workshop
  • Demonstration and practice of debridement techniques

Skills Lab electives are taken as part of the regular elective course load through HIS-LSF.
