Feedback Training

Feedback is useful if it is integrated into the curriculum in a targeted manner and is practiced by students and teachers. It is difficult for an individual to achieve an expanded self-image in the context of developing competencies through an occasional "Great job!" or "You've done that better before!

In order to make students aware that "giving feedback" does not mean "praising" or "criticizing" and is an offer for personal and professional development, the focus should be on expanding competencies through constructive feedback.

However, in order to give students concrete, appreciative feedback that is directly related to their behavior and thus creates a framework for developing their own personality, it is helpful to be practiced in giving and receiving feedback.

With the feedback training we offer a workshop for teachers of the UKD, in which both giving and accepting feedback can be trained in a protected setting under guidance. The training was designed by the Feedback Working Group. With the help of exercises from the field of continuing education and coaching, the participants reflect on their own handling of feedback in concrete situations in their daily work. The aim is to encourage self-directed competence development and to learn to use "giving feedback" as an important teaching tool with confidence.

Our Participants' Responses

"I signed up for the training because I had little previous experience teaching students. In my first lessons I had noticed that giving feedback is actually not always as easy as I thought.

The training was very good for me. I learned that there is no such thing as "the one correct feedback", but that it can always be designed individually to fit the situation. I was also able to learn how other colleagues give feedback, which was very helpful for my practice and repertoire. I would definitely recommend the training to others."

"The feedback training made me realize again how important it is to pay attention to how the attitude and expression towards the feedback receiver is, so that both sides can benefit from the feedback to the maximum."

Theresa van Gemert, M.Sc., Diabetes Consultant/DDG, Research Assistant

"Participating in the feedback training seminar was extremely helpful from my point of view. I had previously given feedback to students rather intuitively. Now they are given thoughtfully and in a structured form."
