Becoming a Mentor

You would like to pass on your knowledge and experience to students and develop yourself at the same time? Then become a mentor in the A² Mentoring Program!
You are welcome in A² as a mentor:in if you:

  • are an enthusiastic and experienced physician or scientist in the Faculty of Medicine,
  • enjoy individual and lively support of young scientists,
  • would like to advise and accompany students on their individual path to becoming a physician,
  • are open to your mentees' questions and are happy to provide them with insights into your experiences, career-relevant contacts and networks.
  • are interested in new experiences and personal development.

What we offer to you

Mentoring

The A² Mentoring Program is based on classic peer group mentoring: As a mentor, you personally supervise a small group of four to five medical students (mentees). You advise and accompany them through their studies and in their development toward a fulfilling professional life.

Mentor:in and peer group meet in person at least 4 times per year. Otherwise, as a mentor:in, you are available to answer questions from the peer group by email or phone.

For the meetings, the mentees select topics they would like to discuss themselves. They inform their mentor in good time of their choice of topics and prepare and follow up on the meetings.

Central topics here can be questions of self-reflection and orientation, self-competence as well as communicative and social-ethical competence:

What do I want to become and how do I want to be as a physician?
What kind of doctorate do I choose?
Where do I limit myself?
How am I in teams? And how privately?
What is important to me as a physician and for my life?
How can I balance family and career?
Other topics may concern your career path and your personal experiences as a doctor or scientist.

Training and Coaching

A special feature of the A² Mentoring Program lies in the innovative approach of joint further development of mentees, mentors, and mentors. A² therefore makes a seminar offer not only to the mentees, but also to you as a mentor:in.

In addition to the seminars, A² also offers coaching sessions for mentees, mentors, and mentor:in. The experienced coaches respond precisely to your individual starting situation - simply select the coaching offer that suits you best!

The A² brochure Seminar and Coaching Offers for Mentors contains an overview of the professional trainers and coaches from whom you can book an offer. You will also find information on cost coverage, organization and registration in this brochure.

As a mentor, you also have the opportunity to take part in courses offered by other consultants who are not listed.

Participation in seminars and coaching is voluntary.

Networking

Mentees, mentors of all years meet twice a year in a large group for joint network meetings. This creates a space for discussion in a pleasant atmosphere that demonstrates the added value of mutual understanding.

The network meetings lay the foundation for good and lasting networking among each other. They also provide impetus for focusing on common professional goals.

The topics of the network meetings are usually chosen by the mentees.

For mentors, participation in the network meetings is voluntary.
